Places to Visit in Sri Lanka:

Pidurangala Rock Hike (in place of Sigiriya Rock), Sigiriya

The admission fee to Pidurangala is significantly less, but the view is actually awesome. The climb is slightly more technicalsometimes we had to queue because of the narrow passages and a massive tourist stream.

Bowatte Beheth Shalawa, Kandy
good place to purchase spices, teas, and all manner of other Sri Lankan treats for a fair price. I wouldn't suggest purchasing directly from spice gardens and tea factories.

Nine Arches Bridge, Ella

lovely walk in Ella, which you may do completely on foot or partly tuktuk + walking. Tuk-tuks who passed along the way were annoying (so protect your heads and feet). The train cross over the Nine Arches Bridge 6 times per day.

Little Adam's Peak, Ella
brief trek with stunning vistas of Ella. Admission is free. Same caution with tuk-tuks as at Nine Arches Bridge.

Kiri Kopi, Ella
nice
 outdoor café with delicious coffee.

Diyaluma Falls Hike, wellawaya
A “wilder” and less touristy
trek
with stunning views. A small section is done by tuk-tuk (approximately 3000 LKR round trip) + a decent half-hour walk. You are supposed to be able to see elephants and leopards. Entrance fee to the falls is 350 LKR.

Mirissa Coconut Tree Hill and Mirissa Beach
One of Sri Lanka's most lovely beaches. I was doubtful at first, but now I can confidently say the sites are worth a visit.

Wellabada Sea Turtles Hatchery
Sea turtle egg hatchery and rescue. Alternative to paid turtle shelters or Hikkaduwa Beach. Donation-based.

Ventura (Bentota) Beach
serene beach with a restaurant
